Ooh, read your meta on Jay and the mice and I was wondering if maybe it would be up your alley to write a fic or make a moodboard blurb about Mouse having DID with Brandon and Gregory in his head and Jay trying to figure out why his best friend sometimes seems like a different person or doesn't remember having gone to bed with someone or why he has injuries or bruises sometimes? Maybe Gregory is the personality that deals with Mouse's parents? And maybe Brandon is the playboy? And Mouse was the one who was addicted and worked with Jay and all that?
[ meta post ]
Hi, nonny!
Sorry this took so long to get to! I saw it as I was getting into bed last night and knew I wanted to wait until I was back on my laptop to answer this (answering things on the app confuses me I hate it the formatting is always a struggle), and then... my brain hyperfocused on spoiled rich boy scenarios and refused to cooperate with anything else. But! I'm here now! And focused on this ask! And oh my god... nonny. I don't know who you are, obviously, but if you followed me in my Marvel era, you know this is a very specifically targeted request.
I know this is niche as hell, but in my Agents of SHIELD era, I was a Leo Fitz blog. I had an RP blog for him at one point. 5x14 of aos is my favorite episode. I know this means nothing to so many people because like 80% of my followers are for One Chicago, but yes, this is up my alley!
we didn't get enough exploration of Leo and that episode as The Doctor/Leopold, and I definitely have a lot of problems with the narrative around it, but the Framework and its aftereffects on him are my favorite arc for his character, easily, and I still think about it often
but that's not on topic, I'm sorry, brain is going very fast because I've had caffeine, and I miss my Marvel boy*
Yes, exploring an AU where Mouse has DID and exploring the alternates of Brandon and Gregory (and the idea of Mouse adopting that nickname as a way to further differentiate between personalities and keep himself... organized, I guess? fascinated by that implication, actually) is absolutely something I'm interested in. However... I don't know enough about DID to write a proper fic, I don't think. Moodboard(s?) + a blurb might be in the cards, though. I'm going to think about this a lot.
And I love the idea of Brandon being the playboy. He's definitely the most flirty, of the three, because rejection and judgement don't scare him? On a separate note, I'm not entirely sure Brandon is human. Maybe we should check on that.
Thank you so much for this thought, anon. It's going to consume my every waking moment. 💜

Which nameless MENA character was better? Disney vs. Netflix
Image description: top image is a still from episode 1 of Disney's Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021), and bottom image is a still from episode 6 of Netflix's Jupiter's Legacy (2021).
Surprising no one, Disney failed.
Let's compare the nameless MENA extras point by point. Disney first. TOP IMAGE.
Minus points for:
Racist yellow filter
Meaningless dialogue that add nothing to the MENA characters
Praising American military
= minus 3 points to FATWS/Disney (I could list more but let's stick with the main issues)
Netflix next. BOTTOM IMAGE.
Plus points added for:
No racist yellow filter used
Meaningful discussion is had
Character is shown in additional background scenes of the episode
= plus 3 points to Jupiter's Legacy/Netflix.
As far as crumbs go toward any MENA rep, Netflix's Jupiter's Legacy won this round.
Read on under the cut as I explain why:
Looking for and spotting any MENA, SWANA, or Muslim characters in superhero media feels a bit like that Leo DiCaprio meme where he's pointing at the TV; in that when I do spot any MENA characters on the screen it's very much a sit up in my chair and pay attention moment
That's how rare they are.
Now, sadly, often those moments are total cringe.
For a cringe example, see recent Disney Plus show Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021). Character Sam Wilson (Falcon) is shown in his first scenes as being on a mission in Tunisia (which is a Muslim majority country in North Africa) with the US Air Force.
Side note: I have so many complaints about how this is all set up to start with, attaching comics characters to the US military way too often and for no good reason. Having Sam's bird Redwing as A DRONE of all things! For a really well put together explanation on the MCU/US military love affair, I recommend watching this video on YouTube: Military ads in Marvel movies.
Let's not forget Marvel comics also tried to set up a recruitment campaign with defense contractor Northrop Grumman not that long ago. Shady, shady, shady dealings there, Marvel and Disney.
Anyway, while Sam and the US Air Force are in this Muslim majority country doing what they please, Sam is shown fixing his DRONE when two nameless Muslim characters walk by.
These two walk-ons basically curtsey to the US military, thanking them for existing.
Yuck.
It should go without saying that this is really gross, and in no way provides any decent or accurate representation of MENA.
Please also note that Marvel Studios didn't miss the opportunity to make the shots of 'Tunisia' (which is actually filmed in Prague, Europe) a ghastly yellow filter effect:
Disney has a bad track record for yellow filter, and also used it recently for the Morocco scenes in Black Widow movie (2021).
Disney, would you please stop using yellow filter!
Now, those nameless walk-on characters were honestly a moment that is far more common to see in superhero media, or American media in general:
nameless MENA bit parts, nothing more than 2D characters existing only to praise the Americans onscreen.
In other words, really problematic, and not something I get any joy from seeing. MENA seem to exist in western media purely to act as props/sacrifices to the US military, or to America in general in these weak storylines from US writers.
It's the same in nearly every American action movie, if MENA aren't the bad guys.
To reiterate: Yuck.
Can't we see something new? It's 2021.
So, imagine my surprise when I spotted a MENA character on one episode of Netflix show Jupiter's Legacy (2021), and not only did he have lines but he actually shared a touching scene with one of the main characters.
GASP.
In episode 6 of Jupiter's Legacy, where the main heroes are in their flashback era and on the boat from Morocco to the magical/fictional island, there's a scene where Fitz goes to the boat's engine room to assist in a mechanical issue.
After a nameless white character/antagonist leaves, Fitz shares some dialogue with a Muslim sailor.
They talk about racism, about Fitz living in America and the racism there.
This is set in 1929, or close to it.
This is the Muslim sailor conversing with him:
It's a really touching scene, not least because finally here is a MENA character in a superhero piece of media that is shown to be a decent person and a supporting character, but he's also shown as smiling, kind, and he's shown as relatable.
This is so incredibly rare in western media.
(He doesn't die in this series either, which is always a plus when it comes to MENA characters.)
One drawback is he's virtually nameless, as nobody uses his name onscreen. IMDB lists him under Ahmed, but it would've been nice to hear someone say it.
For comparion, Disney Plus had its nameless walk-on Dad listed as 'Cafe Patron, episode 1' (though that's a guess on my part, because no photo of the actor or character is shown, nor for the daughter).
IMDB name listing or not, if nobody is using their names in the scenes I count them as nameless characters because audiences will use descriptors such as 'the sailor', or 'that bloke in the street'. They won't be trawling the extras listings in IMDB.
Both studios need to do better with naming their extras, especially if the character is simply there to make the cast 'more diverse'.
(I literally just wrote about this problem with the upcoming Eternals movie.)
Give them a name, dammit! It takes less than a second. I've seen other TV shows and movies do it just fine for bit part characters, so there's no excuse.
Anyway, back to Ahmed the sailor: there's no pictures or video clips I can find of this scene taking place (SIGH), so that means we've had to make do with a photo I took of my own TV, showing Ahmed smiling during the scene.
The character of Ahmed Moustafa is played by Nabil Rajo, a MENA actor.
This is the sort of MENA representation we're desperately craving, not just in superhero media but across all media.
Just some decent, relatable characters, played by MENA actors.
This was a brief supporting role, too, and I'm still really excited about his part because of how rare it is.
Yes, I would've loved to have seen him given a bigger part in the show.
Of course, I'm ticked off that Netflix didn't renew this show, because there was a small chance that this same MENA character could've been given superpowers along with the rest of the boat crew; from blowback off of the island.
(There was a brief hint of the crew being hit with the same magical wave as the main heroes; watch the Captain's face to see it sparkle.)
And I really want a MENA superhero!
Now, overall, the show Jupiter's Legacy is far from perfect.
I haven't read the comics so I can't compare the show to its source material. I do think the show had potential (that therapy scene of Sheldon's was very good, for example, and wipes the floor with Disney's recent attempt at showing a superhero in therapy: Bucky during Falcon and Winter Soldier).
I'm also very aware (oh, boy, am I aware) that Jupiter's Legacy has its problems with racism, namely focusing on the white characters too much and graphically killing off a lot of PoC characters, especially the women.
I don't actually think it's any worse than the MCU/Marvel Studios in that regard (anyone else notice that the only Black Widows to die in the Black Widow movie are WoC?), and the MCU has had thirteen years to get its shit together to avoid bad tropes like that. (Let's not hold our breath, hm.)
Back when it started, MCU phase one was the likes of Iron Man 1 and its terrible representation of MENA as terrorists, MENA dying graphically and then conveniently forgotten about, never to be shown again.
(Yinsen's cameo in Iron Man 3 doesn't count as it adds nothing to the character he didn't already tell us about in IM1, and he's already long dead by that point.)
And as far as MENA go, there have literally been no other MENA in the entire MCU until those two nameless walk-ons in Falcon and Winter Soldier, which I've already explained is problematic and shallow.
So if Jupiter's Legacy season one was showing a MENA character as decent and relatable with possible superpowers, imagine what season two could've accomplished had it continued in that vein.
I want to see more.
(And before anyone tries to tell me about Disney's Ms Marvel show coming up, I'll tell you to go Google "Fix Ms Marvel" and see why MENA fans are already concerned about the show due to its problematic casting and creative decisions/US military attachment.)
~*~
Have you spotted any MENA characters in superhero media lately? Tell me!
Originally posted on my blog, magnificently nerdy.

Panfandom Longfic Recs
All over 50,000 words. In alphabetical order by author. Fandoms include Stargate, Marvel, Austen, Star Trek, ATLA, Good Omens, and Transformers, although many (most?) can be read fandom blind.

Ratings/Warnings: Teen And Up Audiences, No Archive Warnings Apply
Central Character or Relationship: Leo Fitz/Jemma Simmons
Word count: 68,562
Author summary: Jemma Simmons and Leopold Fitz are rival board game designers, each at the top of their profession. They’re offered the opportunity of a lifetime—but only if they can work together. Conflicting work styles, a tight deadline, and utter confusion are all that stand between them and the completion of the most ambitious project either of them have attempted, but what else will they discover along the way?
My pitch: TAKE YOUR FANDOM TO WORK DAY FitzSimmons
Tag teaser: Game Designer AU, Awkwardness, Misunderstandings, Angst, Slow Burn, Take Your Fandom to Work Day
My comments: I know absolutely NOTHING about game design and I adored this fic to the point that SIX YEARS LATER I clearly remember certain scenes.

Ratings/Warnings: Mature, No Archive Warnings Apply
Central Character or Relationship: Leo Fitz/Jemma Simmons
Word count: 133,620
Author summary: (excerpt from a review of the new show, "Meet Cute")
Meet Cute, a show that could have been mindless hiatus-filler, promises weeks of effortless chemistry mixed with surprising emotional twists. In a throwback to old Hollywood, leads Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons trade biting snark and witty banter, but with a decidedly modern sensibility.
As part of the experimental conceit of the series, each episode features entirely new characters and a new premise, with one coherent running thread — the leads meet and fall in love each week. In a further nod to Coulson's paradigm-transcending concept, every character on the show is named after the actor who plays them.
Jemma Simmons (Nothing Personal) is a surprising standout as lead, showcasing her versatility and effortless emotional range. Starring opposite is Leo Fitz, known best for his well performed turns in the short-lived series Yes Men, Chaos Theory, and Watchdogs, who shines as Jemma's romantic foil. Together, they bring a spot-on, electric chemistry that seems to transcend the confines of the small screen, stunning enough that fans are already starting to refer to them as “Fitzsimmons”.
My pitch: Fitz and Simmons are actors, and they take the lead in an anthology series about falling in love, and fall in love themselves along the way.
Tag teaser: Alternate Universe - Show Business, various AUs acted in each chapter, AUs within overall continuity
My comments: This concept kills me every time. It reminds me of Yulin Kuang’s Kissing in the Rain webseries, and I do sincerely wish it were a common genre of work! The POSSIBILITIES.
Five Times Frederick Wentworth Had the Breath Knocked Out of Him On the Ice (and one time he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding) by AMarguerite
Link: http://ao3.org/works/36935755
Ratings/Warnings: Explicit, No Archive Warnings Apply
Central Character or Relationship: Anne Elliot/Frederick Wentworth
Word count: 83,672
Author summary: Frederick Wentworth has always loved to skate, but skating has not always loved him back. Especially when it came to his Olympic dreams and pairs figure skating career with Anne Elliot.
(Persuasion Olympics figure skater/ hockey player AU.)
TW: for some mild modern racism-in-sports talk, and Louisa's canonical head injury.
My pitch: Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth always thought they’d go to the Olympics together, competing in pairs at the 2014 Vancouver Olympics. Life has other plans.
Tag teaser: Friends to Lovers, Alternate Universe - Olympics,
My comments: Look, I really just blanket rec everything AMarguerite writes. I adored her Pride and Prejudice retelling wherein Lizzy and her brother Jamie were ice dancers, Pyeongchang and Prejudice, and I was very sad to learn it had been permanently shelved. However, then she came out with THIS, and I possibly love it even more. What a way to translate this story to the modern era!! Do be warned that covid is a plot point, and while aspects of that are hand-waved for Drama Purposes, some of it is not. Can be read fandom blind.

Ratings/Warnings: Teen And Up Audiences, Major Character Death
Central Character or Relationship: Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet/Colonel Fitzwilliam, Jane Bennet/Charles Bingley
Word count: 190,537
Author summary: One would think that having the name of one's soulmate appear on one's wrist on one's sixteenth birthday would make matrimony much less complicated. It mostly does not. And not at all for Miss Elizabeth Bennet of Longbourne.
(A deconstruction of the "soulmate identifying mark" trope, using "Pride and Prejudice." Trigger warnings in the tags.)
My pitch: Incredibly thorough deconstruction and analysis of the soulmark trope, using Pride and Prejudice as the lens. Has multiple alternate endings if you prefer!
Tag teaser: medicine sure was fun before germ theory, Elizabeth Bennet/ Mud, is the true OTP, Slow Burn, Reaaaally slow burn, Burn so slow it takes like six chapters to defrost first
My comments: The Major Character Death is Colonel Fitzwilliam, whom Elizabeth has married. In one of the alternate endings, he survives, and Lizzy does not go on to marry Darcy.

Author summary: "'Spock,' Jim breathes out, completely overwhelmed by the gesture—not quite believing that Spock knows him so well, that's he's already started researching, that he trusts Jim with a member of his own endangered species."
When Jim gets it in his head to adopt an eight year old Vulcan, Spock presents a logical solution to the issue of Jim's humanity: marriage to a Vulcan citizen.
My pitch: Spirk kidfic
Tag teaser: Kid Fic, Fake Marriage
My comments: I know so little about Star Trek that I was essentially going in fandom-blind, and it did not negatively affect my enjoyment at all.

Central Character or Relationship: Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy
Word count: 59,496
Author summary: There are people who believe that romantic connections are the province of fate and destiny, the result of an alignment of constellations and conditions that bring two people together. Others tend to discuss falling in love as the product of rational decisions that acknowledge attraction and compatibility. Some people, however, seem to think these two seemingly-opposite perspectives are really just two sides of the same coin. Sometimes, after all, destiny just requires that two people make a single choice.

FREE PASSAGE TO THE WEST!
Clint knows that the circus folk mock him — call him too trusting, too soft-hearted — but even he knows nothing in this life comes free. The words puzzle him, and he reads them again carefully to make sure he hasn’t made a mistake.
His eyes are drawn to one posting at the very bottom corner, different from the others. This one is sun-faded and starting to yellow, curling at the corners. Clint crouches down, brow furrowing and lips moving as he sounds out the unfamiliar words.

I am not particular as to looks, but am seeking an individual of equal youth and vivacity with whom I can share my affection and devotion. I am a man of quiet habits, moderate temperament, and kind disposition and would seek the same in my husband.

Author summary: Through the spite of the spirits or plain rotten chance, a door that would have been better left untouched has opened. On the other hand, with Fire and Earth as one's allies, sometimes escaping is the easy part.
Even the Dragon-King's temple floods.

What he didn't expect was that everyone would think Peter's new obsession with the hero would be interpreted quite like That.
My pitch: Peter Parker, Buzzfeed writer, digs himself into some holes. His fellow heroes laugh uproariously before helping him out again.
Tag teaser: Iron dad and Spider son, Peter is a Little Shit, everyone thinks peter is in love with Spider-Man whoops, I am cherry picking canon, Social Media, Fake/Pretend Relationship, Identity Reveal

Tag teaser: Show Business, Secret Relationship, Pining, First Time, Internalized Homophobia, Past Drug Addiction, Ineffable Husbands (Good Omens), Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms, Excessive Drinking, Coming Out, Slow Burn, Oh my god they were co-stars
My comments: There is a substantial amount of spin-off fic of these versions of A/C, as well as some solid fic for the fictional show, and even some in-universe RPF! You can probably read this fandom blind, since it’s an AU.

Central Character or Relationship: Crowley and HEALING
Word count: 99,423
Author summary: As soon as Aubrey Thyme, psychotherapist, had opened her office door and seen her new client, Anthony J. Crowley, sitting in her waiting area, she was observing and assessing him. At first glance, she paid attention to the following:
--His clothing was expensive and stylish;--He wore very strange but noticeable cologne;--His relationship to the seat he occupied could only, very loosely, be described as “sitting;”--He looked angry;--He was wearing sunglasses.
What Aubrey Thyme, a professional, thought, upon first seeing her new client was: you’re going to be a fun one, aren’t you?
My pitch: Crowley’s therapist is one-of-a-kind, and both she and Crowley know it.
Tag teaser: Crowley goes to therapy, outsider pov, Everyone deserves a good therapist, Seriously if you identify with Crowley after the fire therapy would be a good idea, Crowley works through his problems, aziraphale gets carried away, eldritch angelic horror, Of course the DSM was the product of demonic influence, love is a four letter word, gardening advice
My comments: My entire friend group regularly screamed about this fic when it was initially in-progress, and even now periodically someone will reread it and we all spend the next few days awash in feels. You absolutely cannot read this unless you know either the book or the show, and probably both.

Author summary: She hadn’t been sure, at the time, what had finally driven her away from the training center, brought her to book a flight to Waterloo and rent a car for the drive out out to the farm. But when she had packed a bag and headed to the nearest airport, it hadn’t been her apartment in New York or her condo in DC or her London townhouse or any number of hidden bolt-holes she kept around the world that she’d flown to, but a creaking, busy farmhouse in Iowa. (Or: It's been a long journey to get to where they are, and it'll be an even longer journey home.)
My pitch: After Ultron, Natasha finally comes home to Laura and Clint.

Author summary: It also didn’t help that the average glyph message was only three characters long, used no articles or prepositions, and usually had no verbs. What was the proper response to:: Curiosity; Sensation of great speed? Was it a question? A comparison? Why, after a brief visit by National Security Director Mearing, did four different ‘Bots send:: Emphasis; overlapping? Why was a particularly bad joke by Bulkhead derided as ::Undercharged when there were actual glyphs for Not funny and Humor fail? How did any of that work?
My pitch: Kim wasn’t sure what she expected to do with her sociology degree, but it certainly wasn’t “assist the ruler of a group of aliens acclimatize to Earth culture while preparing to introduce said aliens to the world.” Easily read fandom blind.
My comments: SUCH great characterization and plot development. Complete series.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S6 EP6
My jaw was on the floor all throughout this episode. It was a combination of what was happening on screen and my disbelief at the sheer genius of this show.
Fitz and Simmons are some of the most complex yet well-written characters in the history of television. So to put them together, like, literally put their minds together, to give us AND them a look into the deepest corners of their minds, was an indescribable experience.
Season 4, 5, and 6 have been a trilogy of trauma for every character on this show, and not least Fitz and Simmons. The writers managed to weave bits and pieces of this trauma into their mind prisons, creating metaphors that made sense in the way that stuff from real life makes sense in dreams, even when placed in the weirdest context. From tiny Jemma wanting Leo to read a fairytale (about Jemma's search for the OG timeline Fitz) that turned out to be from the goddamn Darkhold to The Doctor and Simmons' classic unhinged horror movie girl making out, everything fit together, making for the most satisfying jigsaw puzzle.
What AOS does (that other sci-fi stories fail to do imo) is that it consistently uses outlandish and absolutely unbelievable science fiction premises to do what all stories should do i.e. explore and comment on its characters, emotions, relationships, and more abstract concepts like morality, human nature etc. in innovative ways. While there are countless examples of how well this has been done, particularly in the last 3 seasons, this episode, in particular, is such a fantastic example.
We get to explore Fitz and Simmons's psyches, both their similarities and differences, how they choose to deal (or not deal) with their emotions and traumas. We get to see that the burden of our minds and our thoughts need not be ours alone to bear, that friends and family and loved ones, like Mack and Daisy, can help share our burden, and help us when sanity seems increasingly out of reach.
Above all, we explore what it means to love and to be in love. Jemma and Leo are not entirely honest with each other, Jemma and Leo are arguably not entirely good people, and Jemma and Leo are so so close to ripping each other apart (horror Jemma literally does rip him apart). But to be in love is not about loving every single thing about your significant other, especially when these things can be destructive to both themselves, you, and others around them, such as Fitz's incessant urge to push his mind to its limits, often forgetting and even disregarding the ethical consequences of his inventions and scientific adventures, and Simmons' need to always view herself as a saviour, the only rational mind in the room that pushes resentments to the bottom of the music box, sometimes stepping over others' and their needs in pursuit of her own goals. Loving someone (including yourself) is to make peace with the dark parts. This is not to be confused with fueling them or indulging in them. Instead, accept that there are unpleasant parts to you, attempt, sincerely, to understand them, and then, transform them. The Doctor and Horror Jemma will still be in their brains, forever. But now, instead of ripping hearts out and torturing Inhumans under a nazi banner, they will be making out with each other instead.
Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge act their asses off my god.
At the start of season 6, especially with the introduction of not-so-Coulson, I was a bit skeptical as to how they would continue to up the quality and storylines this season. They have literally done everything, right? Wrong. The writers clearly have such creativity and absolute undying love for these characters that they have managed to find newer and fresher ways to explore them, exceeding my expectations. While watching the many endearingly-cringy parts of this show (*cheesy guitar riffs when not-so-Coulson first walked through*, *literally everything Deke does*) I forget that, when this show wants to, it can be so gut-wrenchingly emotional.
It is the immaculate representation of both the light and dark of humanity and beyond that makes this one of, if not, the best sci-fi show I have ever watched.
p.s. all the quips about her being so English that she puts her trauma in a music box had me dying holy shit.
can't wait to watch the rest of the show, and then get into the anticipated post-show depression.

OKAY STOP
So I’m finally watching AoS again after being scarred from 5x14 (and knowing what happens in 5x22) and I’m on 5x16
And I’m at Jemma’s “experiment” with the hydraulic fluid and water and Fitz screaming “JEMMA” and banging on the glass when she is acting like she drank the hydraulic fluid is literally JUST LIKE HIS SCREAM THROUGH THE LAB DOORS ON THE BUS DURING FZZT
IM FINE (no I’m not)

FitzSimmons headcanons that live in my mind rent free
Academy Days:
During their time at the Academy, there were SEVERAL times they both fell asleep in one of their beds because they were up so late studying/working on projects.
like they hung out in each other’s dorms all. the. time (except when they were in the lab)
Jemma always sat in the front row in the classroom.
Fitz never did (except if it was a class him and Jemma had together, then he was right there next to her).
After FS became friends, they, without fail, would bring the other up in every conversation they had with their parents.
So much so that both sets of parents became suspicious (in a good way) of the other young cadet their child was spending all their time with.
When Mrs. Fitz met Jemma for the first time, she IMMEDIATELY loved her.
Mr. and Mrs. Simmons felt the same way about Fitz after meeting him for the first time.
Both sets of parents eventually got each other's numbers and definitely talked about their kids and how they shipped them together.
Growing up, Fitz took apart and put back together nearly every machine/contraption in their house
However, Mrs. Fitz didn't mind... most of the time.
Skip ahead/Future:
FS had one other kid after Alya, probably another daughter.
The shield fam are Aunts/Uncles to the FS kids (Aunt Elena/YoYo, Uncle Mack, Aunt Daisy, Uncle Daniel, Aunt Bobbi, Uncle Lance/Hunter).
Except for May and Coulson who are more like a third set of grandparents.
The shield fam has a group chat with the whole team in it (Jemma, Fitz, Daisy, May, Coulson, Mack, Elena, Bobbi and Hunter).
Jemma constantly sends photos and videos of the kids to said group chat, and they demand more if she hasn’t sent any in a while.
The FS kids are 100% spoiled by the team.
Alya definitely had a monkey themed nursery when she was a baby.

Christmas at the Abbey (A Lady and the Chauffeur Story)
A FitzSimmons Downton Abbey AU
Christmas 1929 - Ten years after Lady Jemma Simmons’s wild runaway marriage to the family chauffeur, Leo Fitz, they are back to spend Christmas with her family, and it is set to be the most memorable one yet.
One Shot, Rated T, 14k+ words
Ao3 Link
Guess who’s back, back again, Skye’s Downton Abbey AU is back, tell a friend. HOORAY it is my most beloved fic’s FIRST BIRTHDAY (can you believe it) and I just had to mark it in some way. Downton is fairly well known for its Christmas episode, and so I thought ah hell, Christmas in September! 2020 has already been insane why not just bump up christmas a few months! This is an ENTIRELY original story, I have brought in elements of the Downton plot to suit me, but for the absolute majority this is my own work, just within the realm of that same Downton AU world. It was so lovely revisiting this world, I really do love the little universe that I’ve built up here and god it was just so nice to come back to it. I also want to mark my utter astonishment at how well the two worlds come together?? Like even when I was first writing TLatC last year it was just so easy to combine these worlds of modern day spying and tech and espionage and early 20th century england??????? Anyway, I will stop my normal rambling and let you get to the reading!
Also I have created a timeline of events for this universe, which I’ll put under a read more bc it contains some spoilers!
The Lady and the Chauffeur Universe Timeline
19th August 1893 - Fitz is Born
11th September 1896 - Lady Jemma Anne Simmons is born
August 1913 - Fitz arrives at Busse Abbey
July/August 1914 - Start of WW1
August/October 1916 - Jemma goes to train as a nurse and Fitz confesses his feelings for her.
November 1918 - WW1 ends and FitzSimmons try to elope
6th April 1919 - FitzSimmons get married
12th September 1919 - Daisy and Lincoln get married
12th December 1919 - Eilidh May Fitzsimmons is born
August 1921 - Original Epilogue takes place
2nd October 1921 - George (Georgie) Lincoln Campbell is born.
2nd October 1921 - Lincoln Campbell dies in a car accident
6th January 1922 - Hamish Philip Fitzsimmons is born
2nd April 1925 - Sir Alphonso Mackenzie and Elena get married
30th May 1925 - Kathleen (Kathy) Skye Fitzsimmons is born
30th June 1925 - Daisy and Daniel get married
14th October 1926 - Hazel June Sousa is born
28th May 1927 - Finley (Flint) Alphonso Mackenzie is born
12th October 1927 - Emily Lorna Fitzsimmons is born
14th August 1929 - Arthur (Archie) James Fitzsimmons is born
24th December 1929 - Eve Margaret Sousa is born
6th April 1930 - Violet Faith Mackenzie born
1st December 1932 - Edward (Teddy) Donald Fitzsimmons born
At the start of THIS fic:
Fitz is 36
Jemma is 33
Eilidh Fitzsimmons is 9
Georgie Campbell is 8
Hamish Fitzsimmons is 7
Kathy Fitzsimmons is 4
Hazel Sousa is 3
Flint Mackenzie is 2
Emily Fitzsimmons is 2
Archie Fitzsimmons is 4 months
I have full explanations as to why every single child has the name they have but if I wrote this here I would honestly be here ALL DAMN DAY. If you would like me to explain the names of all 11 (why why did I do that, why did they not have reliable birth control in the 1920s i ask you) I will happily do so in another post. I genuinely have many many many pages of notes of me trying to work out this timeline. It took so long but it was so worth it bc I like to keep track of ages and events, ESPECIALLY in a fic like this where I have given everyone 10000000000 bairns each.

Hi friend! I've never watched agents of SHIELD, but would you tell me about your fave ships and why? I just like hearing about otps :) 💛
Oh my gosh, hi, and thank you SO much for asking!! 😍😍😍 I’ve been grinning down at this ask on my phone intermittently for the last day and a half - because if there’s one thing I really love gushing about, it’s my Agents of SHIELD OTPs. Seriously, finding the time to sit down and answer this has been the highlight of my entire weekend so far. So once again - THANK YOU SO MUCH, FRIEND!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I’m going to put a cut here, because *coughs* I know myself, and this is going to get long.
#1. Staticquake (Daisy Johnson/Lincoln Campbell)
So to give you a little bit of background information, Staticquake is the (formerly) canon ship between Daisy Johnson (who used to be called Skye, and now also goes by the superhero name Quake) and Lincoln Campbell, an Inhuman who had the power to manipulate electricity. Yes, had - he died, for her. 😭😭😭
Why, then, you may be wondering, do I still count this as my top OTP? Well... I actually have a whole long story behind that!
So in Season 1, Daisy (who was still called Skye then, it’s confusing I know) had this other love interest called Ward. Everyone was super-happy when they finally got together in episode 17... which lasted for about five seconds, because right after that, we found out Ward was working for HYDRA all along.
Yeah. After that, the bar for a new Daisy love interest was very low - basically, “not an evil psychopath.” So when we met Lincoln in season 2, I personally was very excited - because Daisy is my favourite, and I want happiness for her!!
I only started watching this show in the lockdown thanks to one of my friends constantly nagging me to do it, so when I got to the episode where we meet Lincoln, I texted her immediately, like, “Lincoln is going to be the new Daisy love interest right?”
She replied with something along the lines of “yeah but don’t get your hopes up, it’s really not that great a ship.”
My immediate reaction was, quite understandably I think, “oh no, he’s not another Ward, is he?!?!”
My friend was quick to reassure me that, no no, Lincoln’s not another Ward.
Whew. But... “why isn’t it a good ship, then?” I needed to know.
The answer I got was something like “🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️, it just isn’t. Don’t expect to like it too much.”
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m that stubborn person who will, if someone tells me I won’t like something, go out of my way to like it. (In my defence, I have red hair.)
But, really - she gave me no good reasons why I wouldn’t like the ship, other than a vague “it’s kinda boring.”
And that just does not work for me. You can’t tell me something’s boring and I won’t like it if you can’t give me any reasons why it’s boring and I won’t like it!! So I went on a deliberate search, trawling through thousands and thousands of words of fanfic, meta and theories, most of which were totally archaic by fandom standards, ahahaha.
This is what I found out:
1. Staticquake is a criminally underappreciated ship. My friend wasn’t the only one who thought it was boring and was barely interested in it.
This actually brought up a fairly interesting point for me. Along with being stubborn, I’m also the person who will root for the little guy, or seek out the less popular ship, as it were. The fact that there were so few people who properly appreciated it actually drew me to Staticquake.
2. Staticquake is in NO WAY a boring ship!! The only way you can possibly think it’s boring is if you really go to no trouble to understand the characters, and even then I... fail to see how it’s boring.
Staticquake’s beauty lies in the nuance of it (and I’m going to elaborate on that in just a sec) but even on a surficial level, it’s really very far from boring. First of all because both Daisy and Lincoln are people with awesome powers (and very attractive people, my poor bi heart.) They also both know what it’s like to struggle with things in their past, and to struggle with controlling their powers. Plus, the way they make each other smile is anything but subtle!
And that’s just on the surface. Once you go into the nuance of the ship (which I am guilty of doing far too often) you start to see just how well these two are suited to each other.
Firstly, and I think this is a very important one, because they were friends first. Lincoln helped Daisy out when she was in a very bad place and really struggling with her powers, and gave her someone normal to talk to, someone who got what it felt like, but who also didn’t think she was some kind of monster. He made her smile, which in that particular arc of episodes, was a big thing.
Secondly, because they’re as close to equal partners as you can get. And that’s something that I think is very often underestimated, both in shipping and in real life - just how important it is that your significant other has to be your equal, too.
While it’s true that opposites attract, there also has to be some level of shared interest. I can attest to that from personal experience - a couple of years ago, I was dating this lovely girl who was studying forensic science. I really liked her, I did. But she knew nothing about music, she was allergic to horses, and she had never even seen a single Marvel movie, whereas I’m a music teacher, an avid equestrian, and I adore anything and everything Marvel.
And the thing is, no matter how much I liked her, it was just insanely frustrating that she didn’t have a clue about the things I enjoy so much. You can try to be interested all you like, but there’s a point where it just gets so frustrating that they don’t get it. I want to be able to talk, really talk, about the things I enjoy, and have my SO not only keep up, but add valuable insights. I want an equal partner. Not in everything, maybe, but at least in some things.
Which brings me back to Daisy and Lincoln. For Daisy, becoming Inhuman and getting her powers changed her life. And Lincoln understands that in a way most of her friends and family simply can’t. That’s really special, I think, and important.
Going on from that, they also work together really well as a team (and they look so badass.) I said to myself when I started this that I was going to limit myself to one gif per couple, but...
Talk about a power couple!!
And the last thing I’m going to say about Staticquake - because I’m going to cut myself off here even though I could go on for a lot longer - is how they’re always there for each other, and accept each other. They know they have issues, and they’re willing to talk about them - as evidenced when Lincoln starts telling Daisy about his past in 3x15, and she says, “you’ve told me this.”
This implies that they talk about their problems off-screen, and stay with each other and accept each other despite them. They don’t make it an issue, they just support each other through it all.
And isn’t that just the most beautiful thing?!?!
So, yeah, all the Staticquake content I went and found turned my brain from “liking this out of stubbornness” to “THIS IS THE BEST SHIP IN THE WORLD OH MY GOD.”
And my ship might technically have sunken, but... I’m still that stubborn. And AUs are my life!
#2. Fitzsimmons (Leo Fitz/Jemma Simmons)
It’s hard to think of a fictional couple who has been through more than Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. They were best friends for ten years, and in true trope-y style, the thought of being together never occurred to them until Jemma almost died, and then Fitz almost died, and then Fitz did die but that’s a whole different story. Anywho, these two have had the most incredible journey over seven seasons, to the point of being recognised as the MCU’s best love story. I could write paragraphs and paragraphs and paragraphs about them, but I’m going to settle for saying that it’s worth watching Agents of SHIELD just for Fitzsimmons. They really are the definition of endgame.
#3. Huntingbird (Lance Hunter/Bobbi Morse)
If you’re a comic book fan, you may know Bobbi Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird. Well, I’m delighted to announce that she shows up on Agents of SHIELD - and she is awesome. She also has the most chaotically-wonderful relationship with Lance Hunter - if exes-who-are-totally-still-in-love-but-too-stubborn-to-admit-it is your thing, then you will love Huntingbird.
Personally, I live for that trope, and Bobbi and Hunter take it to a whole new level - bickering, snarking, but unable to stay away from each other for long, and secretly so soft for each other. Their relationship is total chaos - as Hunter puts it, “we’re 100% compatible, 50% of the time.” But, damn, that 50% is SO worth it - these two really were the best.
(Don’t worry, the were is not because they die - thank God, no. Their characters got written out because they were going to have a spinoff called Marvel’s Most Wanted - yes, people liked them that much. Sadly, the spinoff didn’t get picked up, and we lost Bobbi and Hunter for no reason. It’s SO sad.)
But yeah, for the season and a half we have them, they’re absolutely great - all chaos, but also all supportiveness, secretly-softness, and off-the-charts chemistry. They’re also another pair of SUPER attractive people, help.
I could actually gush about every single ship on Agents of SHIELD, because it’s one of those few shows where I ship everything that’s canon, and a decent amount of things that aren’t. But if I do that, we will be here all year, I’m not even kidding.
So here are my top three. I hope you enjoyed this gushy and unnecessarily long answer - and, gosh, thank you again, and thank you so much, for asking, friend!! This has seriously made my entire weekend. 💜💜💜😍😍😍
#ask#aos asks#staticquake#fitzsimmons#huntingbird#THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR ASKING 😍😍😍😍😍#gushing about my favourite ships is the best. thing. ever!!!

One last game of Tag? Agents of Shield #PartingShot
inI’ve been tagged by the lovely @queensimmons and I think she had a wonderful idea so I’m playing along to pay tribute to my favorite show. Here are the rules :
With this tag game, I want to know the answers to these five (5) questions and then tag 5 or more mutuals. Wasn’t tagged but want to join? Join in ! Everyone is an essential part of this fandom! Name from @ agent.of.shield_ on Instagram ( @agents-of-fangirling ) who had a great idea to post a picture of yourself with a drink (or just a drink) and tag it #partingshot as a finale goodbye to the show (which I also am going to post tomorrow on IG).
Where were you in life when you first started watching AOS?
I was just beginning my master’s degree in translation when the show started and it went with me until the end of my studies. I remember watching the newest episodes during my lunch breaks with my college friend. Then, along my training to become a flight attendant. I remember learning everything about hypoxia right when we found out that’s what happened to Fitz. I was very active on tumblr during the first 3 seasons, giffing Fitzsimmons as much as I could and that’s when I developped my gif making skills. I made a lot of fandom friends here and also through Twitter. I really enjoyed being a part of the fandom during that time.
Where are you now?
I am done with my studies, got two diplomas. I work for an airline, not as a flight attendant but on the ground. I travelled abroad to meet the cast, three times. My main priority is still travelling and I love my job and meeting people from all around the world. The series accompanied me through all the beginning of my adulthood and was a balm to my soul every week (even when the plotlines were heartwrenching). It cheered me up when I was down, which happened a lot more than I’d like but that’s life I guess. Some friends I’ve made on here or Twitter became real life friends who’ve I met and hang out with. I love them.
What character development arc (or storyline in general) did you love the most?
I always related to Fitz the most since we have very similar personality (both Leo, only child, etc) and I loved his character growth up until the Framework arc (still a tough that I have yet to recover from). His resilience after his injury (even in the latest seasons), his unwavering loyalty to his team and friends, his determination to do everything in his power and more for the people that he loves, his courage. The team becoming a newfound family over the years is also close to my heart.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss a LOT of things. The thrill of waiting for new episodes. The BTS content from the cast & crew. The cast and their banter with each other. The intriguing and often verified fan theories (special shout out to @agl03). Meeting the cast and other fans during cons. The CHARACTERS, gosh I’m gonna miss them.
Favorite Quote?
Of course, I’ll have to go with Jemma’s “the steps you take don’t need to be big, they just need to take you in the right direction” quote as it’s especially helped me the past few years.
I’m tagging @agentofship @dannyrand @dilkirani @jemmasimmonsy @jemmafitzsimmons @2minutes2midnight @springmagpies because 7 is my lucky number

“Unstoppable together” is the theme of Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz’s fortitude in the face of any and all adversity. It also describes the teamwork of Henstridge and de Caestecker when presented with anything close to the heavy lifting they did this week, in the FitzSimmons-centric “reunion” episode. Snappy, sometimes sassy banter has always been the scientists’ trademark, and in navigating the mind prison built by Atarah, they shared all manner of verbal volleys — whether trapped in a closet by the ghoulish manifestation of Jemma’s anxieties (“It’s been a rough year!”) or recounting the tortures suffered at the hand of one another’s shadow selves (“The true you just cut my heart out, with a bone knife!“). Henstridge and de Caestecker, in this very special hour, also were tasked with slipping back into younger versions of their characters, dating back to their academic days and then their eventual recruitment by Agent Coulson. In addition to playing their monstrous alters. And while all that is very fun and very good, the scene partners’ strengths also lie in their ability to register emotions both subtle and loud. Watch de Caestecker as the magnitude of realizing Coulson died nearly KOs Fitz with its gut punch. Or Henstridge, when Jemma, tears streaming down her cheeks, is unable to halt the flashback moment that will reveal to Fitz that they got married in his “absence.” Capping this tour de force two-hander was a final, epic argument inside the containment pod, where they aired new issues as well as old issues anew. “All my damage comes from you!” bellowed Jemma. “Well, all my pain comes from you!” responded Fitz. Behind every charged exchange, however, was that impervious FitzSimmons love. “I’ll save you every time or die trying,” avowed Leo, to which Jemma added, “Me too — because I love you!” Consuming the couple’s latest odyssey was, as Jemma herself said, exhausting. But in the very, very best ways.
